Old Independence Cemetery - Texas
An old, picturesque county cemetery located about 2 miles outside Independence Texas - former home of the Texas patriot and statesmen, Sam Houston. This cemetery was started about 1823 on league of Judge J.P Cole, one of the "Old 300" in the Austin Colony. A Daughter, Madora Cole McCrocklin, gave the site. Many statesman, educators, physicians, war veterans, and other "Old Texians" are buried here.
As a photographer: I was inspired by the remoteness and the weathered and lichen covered tombstones, set askew with advanced age, in this beautiful little country cemetery.
